Introducing Push-to-Talk Solution developed with EquinorTransforming Operational Communication
Telenor Maritime and Equinor are proud to present an innovative Push-to-talk (PTT) solution, designed to digitalise telecommunications in maritime and offshore operations.
Using 5G for Seamless Communication
The innovative solution leverages advanced 5G technology and on-site edge systems to deliver secure, low-latency, and reliable digital communication, tailored to enhance crane operations efficiency.
The PTT solution offers three core features:
- Full Duplex Communication:
Enabling simultaneous two-way communication, allowing natural conversation that enhance operational efficiency and safety. - Advanced Session Control:
An innovative alert system notifies users of disconnections, coupled with a visual indicator identifying the current speaker, ensuring continuous and clear communication. - Reduced Latency:
Leveraging on-premises 5G technology, reducing latency significantly compared to traditional systems—vital for time-sensitive operations.
These features guarantee seamless, efficient, and uninterrupted communication, meeting the strict demands of high-stakes offshore operational environments.
Real-world testing and Collaboration
Currently being tested at the Johan Castberg FPSO (Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading unit), with additional trials planned on the Gullfaks A platform, the PTT solution is the result of a collaboration between Equinor’s telecom, crane and lifting professionals and Telenor Maritime’s Research and Innovation (R&I) department. Modirum Security Technologies’ NSC3 application has also been integrated to ensure robust security.
As part of the PTT solution's infrastructure, Telenor Maritime’s technology platform Unified Hosting Service (UHS) houses the NSC3 backend, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
Advancing Maritime Communication
Co-developed by Telenor Maritime and Equinor and powered by a high-performance 5G network, this PTT solution enables instant communication between crew members, marking a significant step forward in operational communication for maritime environments. Together, Telenor Maritime and Equinor are showcasing their dedication to innovation and excellence in maritime communications.
