The Future of Autonomous Vessels
Reach Remote, owned by Reach Subsea, is a fully autonomous Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) designed for remote underwater operations across industries such as offshore wind and oil & gas. The vessel is operated from shore by Massterly, a leader in remote ship operation, and a joint venture between Kongsberg Maritime and Wilhelmsen Group. Telenor Maritime’s advanced connectivity platform enables the vessel to maintain secure and reliable communication, vital for its autonomous functionality and worldwide operations.
Telenor Maritime’s Connectivity Solution
In close collaboration with Kongsberg Maritime, our team successfully integrated a robust connectivity platform on board Reach Remote. Our solution ensures global coverage and real-time communication by providing backhaul capacity through multiple channels, including:
- VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) for satellite communication.
- LTE/4G/5G public and offshore networks.
- Starlink satellite connectivity, offering high-bandwidth services.
Additionally, Telenor Maritime is providing a 24/7 managed service level agreement (SLA) to Massterly, ensuring continuous support and monitoring for the vessel’s operations.
A Seamless Integration with Kongsberg’s K-Connect
Our solution was designed to work in harmony with Kongsberg Maritime’s K-Connect platform, ensuring smooth communication between systems. The integration of the connectivity platform allows Reach Remote to operate autonomously, with the required redundancy in place for security and reliability. Two separate connectivity platforms were installed to ensure full operational backup, aligning with the highest safety standards.
With this solution, Telenor Maritime is proud to contribute to the work being done in the maritime industry, supporting innovation and the development of autonomous vessels that are shaping the future of maritime operations. Check out Kongsberg's presentation of Reach Remote in the video below.
